Worshipful Master Joe Goodnight
Hello: My Brothers, I am happy to have a chance to talk about Masonry. We all made a Obligation to the Lodge, Ourselves and to our Fellow Man. Lodges are not run by individuals, every Member has a voice and responsibility in all the programs, and management of our lodge. If you have a suggestion to help get more members to attend our Lodge Meetings, or to get the general puplic see us in action so that they would become interisted in becoming a member. We all know that we can't ask any man to join our lodge, it is just seeing and being impressed with the way Masons work and study together. Many times some one ask to join the Lodge with the Idea that just getting their names on the books, then they can attend any meeting anywhere. This is not so with Masonry as you know. It is important to let everyone who ask for a petition to know that there is a catechism involved in becoming a third degree Mason. Hopefully this will help candidate to know we work in Masonry and we learn by getting things memorized. When we see Brothers who haven't attended lodge in some time, or if we don't know them we need to extend our hand of fellowhip, not only to show them we are friendly but to make sure they know what degree we are working in. Sometimes even our members we know personally forget to look at the Square and Compasses to see what degree we are working in. Just trying to spare any one any embarrassment.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell
together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the
head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's
beard: that went down to the skirts of his
garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as
the dew that descended upon the
mountains of Zion: for there the
Lord commanded the blessing,
even life for ever more.
PSALM 133
"Thus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand. And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, a plumb-line. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more." Amos vii. 7,8
"Remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain; In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of windows be darkened; And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low; Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets; Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel be broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Eccl. xii. 1-14
